They turn green and then red.
Green then yellow as well.
Same thing with other peppers.
They do not turn yellow first.
Sometimes they will turn red after you pick them but that is only if they are almost ready anyway.

No. Some greens will eventually turn dark red, and the bright red ones start out green, but "red" "green" and "yellow" peppers are different varieties. There are hundreds of pepper varieties, so for size, you need to know the mature size of the particular plants that you have. Or you can guess and pick them before the rabbits get them.

From Wikipedia:
The color can be green, red, yellow, orange and, more rarely, white, purple and brown depending on when they are harvested. Green peppers are unripe bell peppers, while the others are all ripe, with the color variation due to cultivar selection. Because they are unripe, green peppers are less sweet and slightly more bitter than yellow, orange, or red peppers, which all taste similar. The taste of ripe peppers can also vary with growing conditions and post-harvest storage treatment; the sweetest are fruit allowed to ripen fully on the plant in full sunshine, while fruit harvested green and after-ripened in storage are less sweet.

Red Green and yellow peppers are all a different species of peppers. Red and yellow peppers are both sweeter than the green ones and there are also orange ones.
They have their colors right away when they first start to grow.

Seems there are as many opinions on the color of peppers as there are people who answer. The question has not been resolved here.

I had thought not. But yes it turns out the green are unripe and the rest are ripe ones. Color is random.
