day care is very harmful to children under 3, bad for children under 5. your friend should get educated. day care will hurt her baby's intellect, social skills, and health. day care hurts the family, weakening mother-child bond and causing fathers to be less patient. day care is a terrible thing that should never be used. NICHD studies have found that it doesn't matter what the quality of day care is, or even if dad or grandma is the babysitter - separation from mom is extremely damaging to us and all primates. your friend shouldn't have had a baby if she didn't want to raise it.
babies evolved to be with their moms. they need her milk, her arms. when she is absent, their brains flood with stress hormones that impair learning and put the child at grave risk for depression and anxiety.
day care is a crime against nature. save this baby from day care.

This all really depends on whats local to you. The best thing to do would be to look up daycare centers in your local phone book and start calling around. If she is interested in home care centers the she should start looking in the classifieds or ask other mothers for recommendations. Many day cares do take infants starting at 6 weeks but they charge more for babies than they do for toddlers. It is also very common for there to be long waiting lists for infant spots, so she should start looking as soon as possible. The center I used to work for had to finally make a rule that you had to be at least pregnant to reserve a spot because they had so many people trying to get in. Different centers have different hours of course, so she would have to settle on a place before setting her work hours. Full time care for an infant starts at about $1000 a month, though it can be less with home care.
The best way to choose a place is to visit lots of different ones and pick the one that feels right. Make sure that drop in visits are allowed. Any place that limits when you can come see your child is very questionable.

The majority of Daycare centers in NJ accept newborn babies from 6 weeks on (unless they are preschools or nursery schools only). The majority of them have very good hours, from about 7 am to 6 pm and can cost from about 800 a month to 1600 a month. She will definitely have a variety of choices if the baby is already 6 months old, however, many centers have waiting lists up to 1 year for infants, so she should start interviewing and visiting them now!

hard to find child care for infants. I'm even having a hard time finding child care for my one year old. Usually day cares are open from 6 am-6pm. I would suggest she try to find someone that will watch the baby in her own home, at lower rates because child care can be costly for a single mother trying to make it on her own. Day cares usually run from 100 a week to 130 a week, depending on the needs of the child. She could look into state paid child care, she can find information on it at family services, if the state she lives in has state paid child care, I do know that Missouri does, but I don't know about any other state. Good Luck to her, I hope it works out!

Most daycares in the US are licensed for children starting at 6 weeks of age. Hours of operation generally run from 6-6:30 am until 6:00pm, although there are some daycares that have a 2nd shift as well and don't close until about 12:00am.

My friend has a 9 month old baby girl and she is in daycare from as early as 6am until whenever my friend gets off work. If she looks she can find a daycare that will take her 6month old, but it depends on the daycare.
Im not sure how much it costs, but if she needs the money to pay bills it sure beats getting a repo or foreclosure/eviction.

She could start going as soon as her doctor said to, which is normally at the 6 week mark for vaginal birth and 8 week for c-section. Daycares will take them at that young too. I prefer the care of relatives but if you don't have that you just have to check out all the daycares and get rates etc. There's no set rate for every single day care for such and such age. It varies by area, age, type of daycare, etc.

child care can start at 6 weeks old so the baby is old enough, childcare can get expensive though my sister used one at $50/day and apparently that was cheap, as for times every place is diff but the mainly go from 8-6

some daycares do accept infants but space is limited, she probably had to arrange for this before the baby's birth- infant care runs more than average but I think it is at least $500/ week I (in new york ) - and most want payment a month ahead of time
