Think about this:
Most jobs now require both background check and drug testing before hire. Why should we "hire" someone to lead the country without AT LEAST these tests. Many people forget, those "people" in Washington are OUR employees - they work for US, not the other way around.

On your additional comments, why wait until 2008, start this year -midterm elections. Throw all of the bums out.

Yes they should undergo extensive background checks, including lie detectors and monthly random drug tests. One violation and they are banned for life and imprisoned.

yes and no,,,, realism,,, Bill Clinton had it,,, but drove fiscal conservatives, crazy,,, I think men like Cheney, Rove and George W. were jealous,,, because their own wives would,t give them the time of day,,, much less,,, a cigar,,,,,,,
