How extensive, "wide" or "thick" are the barriers and spheres of influence (existence)? What sort of energy make up these barriers and transition zones between individual (or parallel) Universes? The energy created when they meet creates a new Universe? Can a humanly comprehensible system of measurement have a true meaning when considering infinite Universes (if they are so)?

I think some bad sources have gotten you a bit confused about what it really is.

Buy and read a book called "The Fabric of the Cosmos" by Brian Greene. That ought to answer your questions.

As far as M theory goes, it is the unification of 5 seperate theories and is still just a theory. It has the potential to become the Theory of Everything which scientist have been seeking since Einstien. It is based on an 11 dimension plane and involves numerous parallel universes, however the mathematical equations involved with M Theory are so advanced there simply is no form of math capable of producing answers that are not completely ridiculus.
As someone above me recomended, purchase the book by Brian Greene, he is truly an intelligent man and has the ability to convey the complex principles in a way that someone without the advanced background in mathematics and physics can understand without taking from their value.

I can't answer your first few questions, but I can say that a humanly comprehensible system of measurement for that kind of physics is probably impossible.

The idea of infinite universes is very disturbing, because it means that could ever possibly happen HAS happened somewhere, and in fact has happened an infinite number of times. Every possible reality, everything that can and could ever be has been an infinite number of times before now, because no matter how low the probability, and possibly if the probability is even Zero, over an infinite span it WILL happen, and an infinite number of times.

You have asked that question an infinite number of times, been disatisfied and satisfied an infinte number of times... and on an on.

Why buy the book when you can watch the PBS documentary here?

I hope this helps. My understanding is that M theory is an extreme theory... I'm not aware of any math that confirms this as a virtual fact...
