If you live near a truck stop go pick up some magazines from there. Start calling companies. There are a few of the bigger companies that I know of that take students. Scneider National www.Schneider.com and J. B. Hunt are just a couple.

If your driving school was worth a damn, you would have several companies to choose from on graduation day. I graduated back in 2002 and went to work driving a tractor trailer OTR one week later. Your school should be the first place to start looking for work, or you can contact Swift, Schneider, JB Hunt, Roehl Transport, or maybe some other companies. I will warn you, odds are you will be treated like crap for at least the first 6 months. Accept this as fact and learn to deal with it. You might get lucky and wind up with a good employer. There is money to be made. Don't screw around, do your job, be on time, and keep your CDL clean and you will be able to write your own ticket in about 2 years.

fill out an application with www.layover.com . they will send your application to several over the road companies. Many of them will put you in a truck with an experienced driver for a few months as a training program. The pay during the training isn't as good as the Lead driver, but in a few months you'll be able to move up to Lead driver, or be a solo driver. there are probably other websites that provide the same service as layover, that's just the one I used.

I think that most trucking companies have a shortage of drivers, so any major company will probably be good.
