Yes, it is up to you to have them. I would recommed it though. If I did not have mine every year, they would have not found my cervical cancer. I had surgery and its gone. My mom and sister do not like to have them, but now they do because you just never know. It is embarassing, but it can save your life.

#1 - I don't know of any women that love going to the gyn for pelvic exam.
#2 - If you plan on refusing a pelvic exam then why are you going to the gyn? That is their main function.

Yes you can refuse...don't go to the doctors.
What's the point in going to a Gyn when the main procedure done is a pap smear? They need to do this. There are so many things that could be going on inside of you that only this test can diagnose.
They honestly have the right it called the practice of gynecology. It's called MD OB/GYN.
If you never go than that's on you. But what if you decide to get pregnant? Are you not going to go to the doctor? They do a pap smear at the beginning of pregnancy unless you had one in the past year ( or according to you health insurance)
Plus, don't be ignorant to you reproductive system. It's just as important as any other. Not taking care of it can kill you.

Um, I DO NOT LIKE GOING TO THE GYN FOR A PELVIC. However, it's much more pleasant than developing cancer and having a hysterectomy!
Yes, you can refuse a pelvic, but you're stupid if you don't get regular exams!

You could if you really want. But you're running the risk of missing early signs of cancer & other health problems. I was in the first stages of cervical cancer, & it would not have been caught w/o a pelvic exam & a Pap smear. While there are some bad seeds out there, doctors are typically licensed, professional, educated people & they have to go through a hell of a lot to get there. They know what they're doing, & if they recommend something, you should do it. Period.

Every woman needs pelvic exams, they can save lives. Cervical cancer is a leading cancer in many women. You just need a Pap Smear only once a year. You should only be concerned if your doctor wants to give an exam literally more than once a year if there is nothing wrong with your Pap test results. Only then would I be concerned. There has been doctors who have sexually abused their pateients--and it was usually doctors who insisted on examing their pateints very very frequently. If you feel uncomfortbale--then ask for another doctor.

Of course you can. You cannot refuse appropriate medical care for your dependants (and a pelvic exam IS appropriate every year), you cannot refuse care when you are not competent to do so, and you cannot refuse care when it is provided emergently (i.e. you were just in an accident).
You run the risk of untreated cervical cancer if you refuse your exams. I might also add that if you believe that you may have a sexually transmitted infection, you have a moral (but not legal - with the exception of HIV) obligation to get treated and stop spreading the infection.

wow.. I don't know a woman yet that "loves" to go to the gyno! However, it's for your own safety regarding cysts, cancer, std's, etc!! You can refuse any service, however, the doctor may discontinue you as a client.
