No. Humans are not hermaphrodites. (Earthworms and snails are.) Some humans are "Intersex"; these have some sexual characteristics of both male and female.

A clitoris is much the same as a small penis, or you could say that a penis is much like a very large clitoris. One important feature is the position of the urethral meatus, relative to the tip of the structure. This is the hole from which urine flows.

In a normal man, the meatus is at the tip of his penis. In a slightly - feminised man, it will be partway along the penis; this is hypospadias. In a normal female, it will not be at any point along the clitoral shaft; it will be between the base of the clit and the vagina ... maybe even just at the vaginal opening; the introitus.

As other said, there are "shades of grey"; there are not just 2 human sexes, but the "in - between" ones are properly called iintersex.

"Boy or Girl?
Broadcast Monday 25 February 2002
with Rae Fry

Summary:
Boy or girl? This is one of the first questions new parents are asked. But sometimes it's not so clear. This program looks at the wide variety of intersex conditions, and the dilemmas faced by doctors, patients and parents when they have to make the choice - boy or girl. At what stage in the child's life should the choice be made? And does the choice have to be made at all?"

Intersex people often join support groups, and these are now advocating that sexual reassignment NOT be done on children; that they can be better left to decide for themselves, when they are adults. See, for example, the Intactivism site:

http://www.circumstitions.com/

"Welcome to the Intactivism Pages

The struggle for genital integrity
and against the involuntary genital modification
of children of any sex:

Circumcision
Female Genital Mutilation
Involuntary Sex Reassignment"

BTW, the clitoris had two long extensions like legs, that run inside the woman's body, just under the lining of the vagina. They do not protrude into the vagina, though the Grafenberg spot ("G spot) does; that is AFAIK a related structure, but it is just a spongy crest, not a penis shape. It won't be up inside her, but positioned just like yours. There are also men with vaginas, men with breasts and normal penises, men with a flat chest and a vagina, and women with flat chests and vaginas. Rather than there being only two sexes, as many people believe, there are actually five.
And - anticpating your next question - yes, some hermaphrodites can both father children AND get pregnant and carry a child to birth.
They have the sexual equipment to do either one they choose.
And yes, they are human beings deserving of the same courtesy and respect as any other. They are not "freaks"!

Yes, I'm a registered nurse and I have nursed gender reassignments, some of which were due to this very problem, mind you they were all adults and were able to distinguish if they were male or female, not only do they undergo a lot of medical testing but a lot of counseling also about 2 years worth, because the surgery is very horrendous and the recovery is very painful,
I hope I have been of some help.
