Surgery is required to diagnose Endometriosis. Without visualization and/or pathology confirming the presence of ectopic glands and stroma, a diagnosis is considered uncertain. My suggestion to you, especially as someone who has wound healing to consider with your diabetes, is to start at the top with the best specialist. You will be in expert hands, have your entire case managed accordingly, treated through excision so the disease hopefully won't return for the long term, and an absolute certainty about whether or not you have the disease. Visit www.endometriosistreatment.org and www.centerforendo.com for more info on excision and why it is so important to work with a specialist where this disease is concerned. And before any doc subjects you to an empiric course of risky drugs to "help diagnose" the disease, read these articles from the ERC, the only patient advocacy organization that had the nerve to stand up against the industry and not take money from all involved in exchange for promoting this treatment algorithm - like certain other doctors and organizations:

Surgery versus the Use of Lupron Depot as Treatment

Good luck to you.

Find a good GYN who specializes in endo. I found one who is a fertility specialist, doesn't do OB, and is great. I did have surgery, but that was before I switched to him and it was because the endo was suspected not diagnosed. The surgery was because it had been affecting me every day for 2 months. It gave me pain and nausea all the time. The surgery was "minor" but it did suck lots and I would not do it again unless there was a similarly severe and enduring kind of problem.

I say find a good doc who can give you all your options.

only your ob/gyn can answer that question. I had a friend that had to go in once a year and have a small procedure cause she had it I am not really sure what she had done but she had a pretty bad case of it. I know it comes in different levels so the only one who can tell you is the dr. I believe at some point or other though you might have a chance at having to get surgery.
