i want to use limewire but i am having trouble understanding the legal and illegal part. the site says ' LimeWire is legal software, but it is illegal for you to use LimeWire to share copyrighted files without permission ' what does it mean '' illegal to share copyrighted files ''??

lime wire is free and legal but it means you shouldnt download music than put it on cds and sell it to other people just downlad music and use it for your personal use and your being legal

It means in lay mans terms anything that you don't make you can't share.

No movies or music or writings or pictures that you did not create.

But the funny thing about limewire is that most of its users use it for illegal means.

In order for you to get music, someone has to share it with you. So either way your on the losing side in court if you get caught.

But most people don't get caught.

However I will say this, if you are downloading in a college dorm or library, they will sell you out to avoid lawsuits so stay away from using those lines for downloading stuff in general.

its legal to download stuff thats legal(trial programs, etc.) but is illegal if you download songswithout a license a lot of things on limewire are illegal.

If a track hasn't been released free of charge (most haven't), it's not legal to leave it in your shared folder for other people to download from you. That's all it means. And yeah, that means 99% of the stuff you see on the Gnutella network isn't supposed to be there.
