I use henna tattoo transfer paper to make cool designs that I can not free hand. The paper allows me to transfer the design onto my skin to trace with henna. Its like making a crbon copy on your skin and the transfer does not affect the henna staining.

I buy the paper from www.shopbeachcombers.com. Just do a search for transfer paper in there website search.

I've used henna a long time, I even had it done in India. Henna is a dye, it stains the skin. I think the easiest way to do it is to start simple, try a large flower or a swirl, Henna is an art and very free form, you can't mess up. Look on-line for simple designs. I think you may be squeezing your cone too hard if it is breaking. Also the best thing to do is do your Henna before you go to bed, let it dry before you go to sleep, sleep with a towel so it doesn't get on your sheets and then wash it off in the morning. This will make for a darker design. Lemon juice helps too, wash you location prior to application, apply, and then spray lemon juice on it. Good luck.
