If you are purchasing an RX8 for reliablity, you are going to the wrong place. The car is absolutely amazing, but at the same time very ......finicky. What would be a "problem" on any other car is normal for the RX8. Excessive oil consumption, poor gas mileage, engine flooding (yes a fuel injected car floods), etc. If you aren't willing to give the RX8 100% attention and care, do not purchase it. It must be strictly and well maintained. I may suggest a Mazda Miata as an alternative (same chassis, different body/drivetrain). You lose the sweet styling and the little bit of practicality that the RX8 has, but its just as fun and more reliable. It's very difficult to find a car to be in the same class as the RX8, but you may look towards the following:
Miata (as mentioned previously)
350z
Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice
S2000
None of them maintain the look of the RX8 or its 4 "doors", but will provide a similar driving experience, less the 9000rpm redline. Check out www.rx8club.com for more info to make up your mind. I just don't want someone to purchase this car and not realize what they are getting into, its not bad, but you just have to love your car like many folks (myself included) do. Good luck.
**If you own the RX8 or are asking for a friend, just go to rx8club.com and do a search for what the problem is, tons of info there minus the RX8 vs. every car threads.
