Even this stupid little nowhere place I live has buildings that are supposedly haunted. I guess there could be some mass delusions. Hell, even I've seen a ghost. Was it "real"? Seemed pretty damn real. I guess I can still plead temporary insanity.
Same thing with the "are UFOs real or fake".
Hopefully, someday will have rational answers for these grey areas of our understanding.

I believe they are real. And this is no joke but my mom and her sisters and mom live in upstate new york and they have actually experienced ghosts in their houses. I heard stories as I was growing up but never really thought about them as being real until I experienced it myself...I use to go visit my grandma and spend summers with her and one night me and some kids snuck out after dark and went up this hill they call haunted hill. There is a house that sits there for years with tall grass around it and the front door ajar from the hinges falling off. I walked up the hill and as I looked at the house I noticed in the upstairs window was something white and glowing looking at me and the kids. I got so scared I ran back down the hill, and at that moment I started my period which was odd since it wasnt due for two more weeks...scary stuff.

I got no facts for you, only opinion, so if it is facts you are asking for then read no further.
I think that spirits are real, just like demons and angels are real. Too many people have had experiences that are not of this world entirely. Yes if you are to go by the statatics and the law of averages, they are real.

Ghosts are entirely real.
Whether they are the lost souls of the dead, swamp gasses, our faulty perceptions, electromagnetic disturbances, or hallucinogens, that's the true mystery.
