purpledog i wished i could truthfully answer that most men are dumbasses. we have no idea of how to treat our spouses...suggestion, tell him you are going out with the girls one night and let him fend for himself, trust me

You may as well ask the question "Why is everyone who is not me a jerk"? The fact is, you were two different human beings when you got married and you continue to be two different human beings who are now married. You can tell him you don't like certain behaviors and if he cares about you (which I am sure he does) he will at least try not to engage in those behaviors, but hey, nobody's perfect.
Men will be men, on occasion. Sometimes women just don't understand the male mind and find how they act on these occasions, irritating. And Women will be women also on occasion and men certainly don't understand the female mind and sometimes find how they act on these occasions to be irritating. The best thing you both can do is look at the parts of the marriage and the parts of each other you truly adore and, at least attempt to overlook the more annoying aspects of each of your personalities.

Have very long engagements, at least a year, they can only put on a false front on so long and in a year you get to know the real person before you get married and I am all for pre-nups too. I only knew mine for four months before marriage and that was a big mistake found that he had real control issues and they just got worse as time went on and did my best to make it work but after 30 years gave up. Some women have the same problem so not the sex the person.

Men are individuals just like women. If someoen were to say "all women are ____" (insert any negative description) they'd get slammed. I have never been accused of being a Jerk in my life.
You did chose him to marry after all.

i agree with pisof49, remember though that you teach people how to treat you, simply don't tolerate it and he can't do it. Another good learning method for men is a taste of their own medicine, sometimes they just don't get it until they get some of it back!

I don't think that we are all jerks, you must have just got ahold of a bad apple. Maybe he treats you bad because of your attitude.
