Did you have a miserable experience?

My son goes to school there.

I know the teachers have to hit the parents up for supplies in the beginning of the year. But the parents expect it.

I don't believe the salaries are competitive with other states and, of course, most schools across the nation don't pay well with a few exceptions.

I view teaching as a calling rather than a career. You really have to be getting something out of it besides money and your sanity.

Actually, I feel quite fortunate. I have great administrative support, encouraging co-workers, and decent students. Now, I say decent only because they do, of course, give me fits, as any group of teenagers will. However, I have never been threatened with physical violence, verbally assaulted...just ignored on occasion or talked back to.

Mind you, this is not the scenario in EVERY North Carolina school. Friends of mine in other systems have been assaulted--verbally and physically--and have been left high and dry by their administrators and/or peers.

The key is just to choose your school and system carefully during the interview process!
