No important that the muscle get rest-a pulled muscle is actually a TEAR in the muscle fiber-put ice pack on it as much as you can and if need to can take (over the counter)Ibuprofen 200 mg-can take up to 6 daily and is much safer on liver/kidneys than Tylenol, Aleve and so forth.Ibuprofen is for pain and inflammation-I take for muscle cramps etc my neck and shoulders and works the best. The Ice will prevent bruise from getting worse and speeds healing. On the average takes about 2-3 weeks to heal. A pulled muscle often occurs because what you attempted to do you weren't in shape to do. To avoid this type of injury AFTER you are completely healed always warm up-can jump or run in place or swing arms5minutes to get muscles warm and then stretch before doing the activity---staying in shape is the best way to avoid injury. Do not stretch the muscle as in stretching exercises for you will make the tear worse and therefore take a lot longer to heal-muscle will eventually repair itself if you take my advice-Looked up with IE Search treatment for pulled muscle.

The best thing in my opinion is to massage it. I would stretch it gently if you can take it, but don't do too much. I think stretching is better for prevention. i.e., you're flexible enough that when you slip and your legs go into the splits, you're far better off if you can actually do the splits under normal circumstances...
Ice the heck out of it. It'll be cold, then it'll hurt, then it'll tingle, and then be numb. Go through all four stages and that's when you've iced it enough. The ice is not just there for pain, it cools the area and prevents the damage and inflammation from causing additional damage to nearby healthy tissue.
You can also take some ibuprofen to act as an anti-inflammatory. That also can prevent some of the damage from spreading.
Once the swelling is down, you can try alternating hot and cold packs, but usually I don't bother for that. I can't say if it makes a big difference from my own experience.

If you pull a muscle, it is very beneficial to walk on it. Gentle walking actually helps it heal faster, because it gets the blood to where it's needed. Make sure you ice for 48 hours after tearing it, and apply heat on days 3 and 4 of the injury. Stretching is best after the muscle has healed. I hope this helps.

Controlled stretching won't damage it. Nobody MEANS to pull a muscle. If something is torn, stretching could cause more damage, but stretching will help keep that muscle loose and make it more difficult to have another accidentally pull.

No, it will hurt you more. Best way is place an ice pack on it for 20 mines; replace with heat pack for 20 mines. stick pain-releave plaster afterward for 12 hours...such as Tiger-bond plaster...

i do track and that happens to me alot strtching it is very good although painful at first if you dont stretch it over time your muscles will constrict
