Its not one about being dead or alive by i think it is bon jovi. Its goes something like " im a cowboy i live off the land, yea im a cowboy" and something about throwing hay and working all day. If anyone knows please let me know.

Bon Jovi's version sings about riding a steel horse, drinking and being wanted dead or alive.
Reba McEntire has a song called "Daddy." It mentions 'Totin hay' and cattle, ranching, rodeo roping and getting the ranch in the clear. (See the first link below) ...but she's talking about him being a cowboy, not in the first person.
In the second link Chris LeDoux Lyrics talk about Roping, Branding, Haying, Riding Fences, Living on beefsteak and beans. He's saying he doesn't care for farming but would rather be a rancher.
The third link shows lyrics from Oklahoma about Farmers and The Cowman. It highlights the Hatfield/McCoy feud between them, if you were unaware.
