Well, the best thing to do would be to ask him what different types of cars he likes and then try to get something from his list if possible. I do not know if you mean to buy a new or used car, but you should also perhaps specify how much you are willing to pay and maybe let him do some of the shopping around.

From your description he seems to be a responsible person, so allowing him to choose and shop around should not be a problem, just as long as he knows to treat the car with a lot of respect and responsibility when driving and to be careful.

It all depends what you want to spend. For a first car I would recommend a standard 4cyld Sedan. As said Toyotas and Hondas are great first cars and easy on gas too. I myself started out with an 89 corolla which I bought for $500 and it was a great car. Easy on gas and didn't need any repairs done at all the whole time I owned it.

the best thing to do is to find a good used but cheap and easy on gas car that has 4 doors not 2 doors insurance will be cheaper on 4door car to were a 2door car is considered a sports car so that is what i would do and see how well he takes care of it and then on his last year of high as a graduation present take and trade it for him a car that he wantseven if it is a 2door car and let him get a job and pay for the insurance on the car ou get him for graduation if he takes really good care of it he might apreciate the next car even more than the car that you get him now

A smaller, fuel efficient car.

Hondas, Toyotas are common. Dodge Neons are okay (2000 and newer). Even cars like the Ford Focus or Chevy Malibu may work just fine.

I recommend a Chevy Cobalt, it looks sporty, which he'll like, yet it has a four-cylinder engine so it will give him good gas mileage. The engine is also an ECOTEC so it is very low maintance and very reliable. They are also pretty inexpensive, you can get a slightly used one for 15-17,000.

Hi....!!!
Well, if your kid is as much responsible as you had described then you must best take him along with you and take a car that he too likes and that also qualifies your requirements like your budget, good gas mileage and so on......
