It is one of the best and funniest/saddest books I've ever read. I could totally get involved in the characters and they all seemed very real. I recommend it to all my friends. I gave away my only copy and am going to buy another. It will probably be the only book I will read twice. Too bad it had to be a one hit wonder. It won the Pulitzer Prize. Whether or not all the above qualifies it as a masterpiece, I don't know, but I definitely qualify it as a masterpiece.

Without a doubt a masterpiece. A comedy steeped in pathos. A book the author gave his life for.

Actually not EVERYONE who has lived in N'Awlins thinks it a GREAT book. I lived there and I actually couldn't finish it. I just couldn't get into it at all, and I am the type of reader that once I have committed to reading a book VERY RARELY put it away unfinished. I even finished VIOLIN, which is the ONLY book by Anne Rice that I absolutely HATED...

I thought so. I made all my friends read it and they were all like, "What the hell is the matter with you?! That book is a as stupid as it was poorly written. Was this some sort of joke?"

Scores of publishers turned it down before it was published. Maybe they knew something.

Maybe I missed something, but I didn't like it. I couldn't sympathize with any of the characters.
