I'm always low on money myself but today is my birthday and I got quite a bit. My 15-year old is going away in less than 3 weeks (long bus trip) and says she'll die without her i-pod which is broken. It is no longer under warranty and not only will it not charge, but she also managed to ruin her charge cord by dropping it in water.

I-pod not charging isn't her fault. Dropping charge cord in water happened while she was sleeping and the water was in a shot glass...salt water for cleansing her belly-button piercing.

Im the daughter...
first: Mom I never even expected you to buy me another ipod.. kinda happy to find out that you'e thinking about it. I was just gonan ask if you could buy it for now and I'd pay you back. (because I cant come up with the money in 3 weeks) and just so you know, I've been researching mp3 players around here.. I realyl dont think i want an ipod again. Too expensive and i'd be freaked that it would break again.

second: The ipod breaking was not my fault. It was a mini. (which apple took off the market shortly after releasing it) My first problems with it started about 6 months after owning it. The batterie (fully charged) would then only last me 15 minutes. I then got that up to half an hour and eventually I fixed it to lasting me 2 hours. (it lasted alot longer when new) and the batterie costs about $145 to replace. The wall charger getting ruined was my fault. It fell in some water overnight and become rusty. Man i was soo mad! After that it wouldn't charge at all, even by computer, and then so I couldn't update it at all. It just sat there.

umm hmm.. well I was thinking about getting this mp3.. I forgot the name but I have a link to it. I think it's called creative zen...?
It's cheaper then an ipod video (which is what I would have liked if I got another ipod) and has good memory too. I have to research it more though.

If it wouldn't charge before she ruined the charge cord, it's because the battery is dead (meaning it won't hold a charge any longer). Early i-pods had non-replaceable batteries that eventually would be useless. SO, maybe she didn't break it. I think the new ones have replaceable batteries since people complained so much about the other ones.
On the other hand, she won't "die" without her i-pod. Conditons? You could make her work for it. Do something to deserve it. You know, earn it. Wash dishes or do laundry for the next 3 weeks. Mow the lawn, clean house, something that'll give her some appreciation of how most people have to work for what they have. It'd be a good lesson.

I say you should buy it for her and also maybe the charge cord. You should not tell her about it yet thought. If in the next 2 weeks she is being helpful, listening to you doing her homework and chores etc. etc. then you should give it to her. After you give it to her you should set down that she will have to pay 1/2 or 3/4 of it or whatever you decide is a fare amount. After the trip you should take her ipod and not give it back until she pays whatever she owes you. If however she does not listen and be good before the trip you should have her pay for all of it and once she does then you will give it to her. OK good luck

I don't think you should "give in." Two reasons: she ruined the first one (showing a complete lack of respect for the item and the cost associated with it) and, since she broke the first, she should definitely earn the second.

And she should earn it *before* she gets it. Perhaps its time she start doing household chores and helping some elderly neighbors to "earn" the money you'll be spending on that expensive replacement for the expensive gift that she was careless with.

Let her go on that bus trip without her precious iPod. She'll learn how to treat her belongings more carefully.

Wow... This could set the precident for all future major purchases... The car... College... That's about it.

Just a guess, but maybe it just needs a new rechargable battery and charge cord?

Well...you could make her pay you back...or pay you forward...she has to do everything you tell her to do for the next three weeks or else....no i-pod.

Ok if she wrecked it then it's her own problem. 15 is old enough to know better. Tell her to bring the good old fashioned CD player and lots of batteries and to be more careful with her things. If you CAN'T stand to see her miserable, then get her a new one under the condition that she pays you back for it, and I would get her an otterbox case for it. You can buy them online; they're waterproof to 10 feet, crushproof, breakproof, and impact proof. They're a little pricy, but they're worth it in the long run.

sounds like she's not too responsible! tell her if she can't take care of her stuff you buy her she will be buying her own stuff! this will teach her not to be a spoiled brat and if you keep giving her what she wants she wont have any respect for you as her mother! It will later get out of control and she will be controling you! whose the mother here who is in charge of the daughter and who is the daughter who should respect what her mom gives her and that she even has a mom !!

it would remember upon the state you stay in. even if it is definitely a county dept, call a number of the community press and let them comprehend. it is a surprisingly exciting tale "county gained't let workers have lunch". maximum states do call for that you enable workers to have a lunch spoil. How lengthy it is or maybe if it is paid or no longer varies, yet for an 8 hour day, each man or woman benefits the standard human excellent of eating.
