Yes! We all have a lot of negative self-image stuff and we don't talk to ourselves kindly. Affirmations work to put a new positive path in the brain. Make it funny and it really works. Met my husband after doing this one. "I'm the cutest of the cute, I deserve love and lots of loot."

Only if you are well acquainted with where and when the negative self image formed(can't repress anything anymore)
and
you are using the words of affirmation to persistently replace those images with new ones.(new reactions to old occurrences)
I wouldn't just speak them blindly though. While it might work, you can get a richer experience of life by personalizing the process.(People often think the goal is "a better self image", but its actually to live a great life, to live the possibilities. An objective to that goal, though, would be a better self image).

It's the only way, because you can't eliminate your subconscious, only ignore it until it comes out sideways.

Yes. Your mind was programmed into believing the negative stuff. Positive affirmations are just a way of reprogramming.

It is far more likely that it will be helpful if you say things like...

*I am strong and confident when I ___________
*I choose foods that are good for my body.
*I do somethng special for myself every day.

You won't have as much success (in reality or in feeling) with the following
*I can jump 20 feet in the air
*I am a Chinese diplomat
*The Papparazzi hound me at every turn.

Say anything you want... just make sure you're not standing within 15ft of ANYTHING reflective... otherwise the purpose of your new-age blabbering will be shot to hell.
