I'm fortunate it wasn't a tragedy, just a gargantuan hassle. Recently in VA, the rains were unrelenting, and our basement was leaking. We have a new pool table, and I was afraid it would be ruined (too heavy to move). I was up all night shop vac'ing the floor, running outside to unclog the one small drain pipe, cleaning/shp vac'ing the window wells, replacing towels along the baseboard of the basement, drying the towels...what an exhausting night.

AT one point, (I think it was about 4 am), I tried to get a few minutes of sleep. The rain had stopped. It started again (heavy, loud, relentless rain). As I went to start up the shop vac, the lights/electricity went out.

Small potatoes in comparison to what some experiences, but a LONG night nonetheless.

The night I was in the hospital with my veins collapsed and the EMT was wrapping me in wet towels trying to start an IV. I was poked about 20 times and then they inserted a Pic Line into my arm up into my heart. Administered antibiotics and I felt like my whole body was on fire. Worst and longest nite I ever had.

You have asked some good questions!

The longest night of my life was the night my husband died. I've never felt so alone.

I was living on a military camp in Kabul, Afghanistan and had just returned from 2 days of flying from Canada. I was getting ready to go to bed and we heard an explosion and shortly after we were called to go to the bomb shelters. It was late October and very cold and I hadn't slept for nearly 3 days. I wasn't even scared, I was jsut so tired and cold that I thought that was going to kill me. I think I finally did fall asleep but the was one of the worst night ever!!

Last night, i had an argument with my girlfriend, i couldn't sleep. To top it off i had to wake my father from a nightmare he was having. I haven't slept well for about a week. It was a long night but not my worst by far.

The night my daughter, who was 2 at the time, was very sick. My wife and I stayed up 2 straight days and nights caring for her. It took 3 days to get her better and the bonus was, we toilet trained her all at the same time.
