only oppose evolution because we "fear" that it means that God isn't real? God is powerful enough to do evolution, and if someone believes in him, they will have no problem accepting evolution if there is evidence, right? So has anyone thought that it might be on scientific grounds that they oppose evolution? What are the evidences for evolution?

www.trueorigins.org gives answers to many things on talkrorigins, and if someone wants a list of books with scinetific evidence against evolution, email me at factorfiction16@yahoo.com.

But what is the big deal with peer-review? All the peers are evolutionist, so they will not review or publish anything else. I know people personally who were fired for disagreeing with evolution. How can they publish peer-reviewed stuff? Maybe books are more reliable anyways...

ikyoto99us, I have done a lot of research and am studying zoology with an emphasis on evolution in college. I also plan to go on to grad school. The evidence just isn't there so far...

The "you religious people oppose evolutionary theory out of religious fear only" arguement is an "ad hominem fallacy". This is a debate tactic (albeit an illegal one in true debate competition) where the person on the opposing team is attacked, instead of their arguement!

By discrediting the logicalness of the argueing party, the person making the "ad hom" hopes to discredit the entire arguement.

For example:

"A" proposes: "Crack cocaine is a safe substance for children to handle."

"B" counters: "Crack cocaine is a chemical poison, (lists the harmful affects to the body, etc.), and is NOT safe for children to handle."

"A" re-counters with: "B, you're too stupid to be in this debate. You are too young and inexperienced to know what we are talking about. Furthermore, you're too timid to try cocaine yourself, so you haven't tested your theory. You're just a young, inexperienced, stupid coward."

"A"'s answer is an example of an ad hominem fallacy. The arguement of "B" wasn't even answered; debater "A" tried to disqualify the contestant on illegal grounds, because "A" could NOT counter "B".

I really believe that is the reason behind "you Christians are a bunch of fearful, religious nuts, that can't accept good science" arguements.

Ad hominem.

Science uses peer review to ask and test the theories before accepting them. It is to insure that what is put forward is based not on speculation or supposition, but something that is true - and if it can be disproved it is.

God cannot be proved, there for is not science. Believe what you want, but if you cannot test it, and have your findings and test data re-created in another lab, then it's not science. Evolution on multiple scales has been observed and found to have factual evidence for it - it does not say there is no god - it only asks "how did did something become what it is?"

If you are willing to do something very difficult, go to the library and to a good school and learn the sciences behind evolution, both micro and macro. Asking for complete shows of evidence here is like asking someone to show you the ocean in a teacup.

One small example that can be given of evolution in action - a species of moth that lived in England prior to the Industrial Revolution was white. During the time period that the factories were producing so much soot that the white moths stood out against the flowers and grasses that they were easy prey for birds, the species became darker generation after generation.

There are now two species of moth, the original and the darker - and they no longer can interbreed and produce viable offspring. A new species evolved to survive a new environment.

I think more people would say that religious people don't accept evolution because it contradicts what was said in Genesis, logically, people of faith would not have any fear of God not being real. There really is no reason a religious person cannot believe in God and evolution, if everything else He created works through natural means it would only follow that life would of been created the same way.

All that being said, I've never seen a scientific argument against Evolution, only arguments based on religious thought and scripture. As far as evidence for evolution, frankly it's overwhelming, it's even been said that nothing in biology makes sense except when viewing it in the framewok of evolution. Because some religious people do think like that. They oppose evolution because the Bible says God created everything in 6 days and just dismiss any other evidence. They think evolution is trying to disprove God. And that makes some non-religious people think that's how all religious people are. Even though evolution does not attempt to disprove God at all, and it is possible to believe in both God and evolution (I do), Or either or niether.

nop it is not because we fear GOD is not exist, GOD create something out from nothing! that we must remember. I give you this example. untill now no scientist in this world can separate The north and the south axis in the magnet bar. the south side cannot exist without the north side. If we can separate those two, then we can accept the theory of Human evolution. evolution is somthing that is change towards a thousand years from just one simple block of cells, it has been 2006 hundred years since time being recorded. but why not a single monkey being more cleaver than a 4 years old children? only one theory of evolution I can accept for now. I dont take it as evolution my self. I take it as adaptation. for example a plant, evolve to survive in the new habitat, human evolve, in term of nose size, colour of skin, height and weight to be familiar with the place they live in. BUT not evolving from one hairy subject (ape) to adam!!! Sorry if you a hairy person yourself though.

With all the thumping going on,as usual here.Common sense, baptized catholic, beat catholic,by nuns,I now believe in a higher power. As for catholic, slaughtered more in his name, still do,owned more and still do.Controlled people and still do.Common sense, look back at the Puritans that came here, can you say Ignorant, come on witches.Do you see what little small minds are...Ignorant.
Sciences, have done nothing above, but to try and give us answers to why is this. Not some words from people whom stoned people, for justice. So,those whom don't believe in evolution,I am getting smarter everyday that I read something new in science.
Not fear, hell and brim stone. We are of 1 species, humans. We may look, smell and act different, but we are 1 family. The sooner people stop all the ignorance, the sooner we evolve as a species.

Perhaps and I say perhaps because those that consider themnselves religious are true to what religious means to re-live what they are/have been taught to believe. God means master. Whether you 'believe in evolution or creation does not negate the fact that the Supreme Being does exist and is real. Because one believes or disbelives does not mean that a thing is not so. There are many master, gods. There is only One Supreme Being of a time.

I have no problem with people being religious. I do, however, have a problem with the way some highly religious people let their religious beliefs impair their thinking. Religion and science don't mix very well. If you want to figure out the workings of the universe, in any scientific field from anthropology to zoology and every discipline in between, you must adhere to the scientific process.

well i am not afraid of evolution and i am a christian so that first statement has just been proved wrong. and the evidence of evolution is clear and out there everywhere every day. just look at the cane toads(poisonous and aliens to Australia ) they have evolved from small Little toads to now big toads (that helps them go longer distances) and we know that is is not just a large toad because some are small and some are huge and if you where to see them then you could tell the difference

You know what, this argument will go on for centuries and both sides will be convinced that they are right. The same thing can be saked, what evidence is there for creation? They are not opposing it on scientific grounds. They just want the Bible to be taught in schools, that is all.
