98% of the people I know Can not Look at the American Flag and count The 50 stars?Even though I can.?

The way the stars are placed on the flag may have something to do with it. To some people they become slightly blurred making it impossible to count them.

Maybe you are friends with people who have reading problems. They could have a tracking problem which means that if they were reading a book and got to the end of a line, when they move their eyes down the page, they may skip a line accidentally.
