Hey i have been working on My best Friends S10 2.2 liter pickup, we are trying to build the motor up. Yesterday at work someone told me to advance the timming on it is that a good thing or not

That depends upon the vehicle. On a 90-97 Miata, you can advance the timing by a speific amount, and it really helps the performance, although at the expense of gas mileage. I'd suggest looking around to see if there are any S10 owners sites that would have better advice on this.

Advancing the timing may help. Odds are, it will do more harm than good. Does the engine have a new cam or any aftermarket parts? If it is stock, I wouldn't go more than two to four degrees advance, but even this could make it spark knock or ping too much. High octane fuel is a must in this situation. It's a 4 cylinder, just how much power do you think it will gain?

you can advance it a degree or 2 but no more than that. it really wont do much for power. id leave it alone.
