Does anyone know the *original* singer(s) of this song. I know there are a few remake versions around, one with Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton, and Bob Segar and?? If anyone knows the original singers of this song, I would greatly appreciate answers!
Thank you!

Bob Seger was the orginal singer (as well as writer) of this song. It's been done by several people, including Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton and more recently Ronan Keating and Jeanette. Here is what Bob Segar says about writing the song:

Seger: "I had written a song called 'This Old House,' with the exact same chords and a slightly different melody...Then I went to see 'The Sting,' and there's a line in it that struck me, when he said to the waitress 'It's 4 in the morning, and I don't know anybody.' That just hit me real hard. The next day I wrote 'We've Got Tonight,' this song about two people who say 'I'm tired. It's late at night. I know you don't really dig me, and I don't really dig you, but this is all we've got, so let's do it.' (laughs) The sexual revolution was still going strong then." Gary Graff, October 1994, Detroit Free Press. "Bob Seger Tells The Stories Behind The Hits."

Bob Seger sang it by himself. It seems that everyone who has sang it since then has done it as a duet.

Bob Seger... For a minute my mind went to Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warren.

I think Seger wrote it and sang the first version by himself, then Rogers and Easton remade it.
