They were terrible, mainly because they did not play as a team...they were a group of amazing stars that never were able to play as a team...As stars that they are, they were able to win games based on individualities, but to beat France you need more than individualities, they needed to come together, and that did not happen.

Brazil has been lacklustre in the past few tournaments, not just this recent World Cup. Brazil was only a real threat back in the days of Pele, but now they are way overrated. By contrast, Argentina is the most underrated South American team.

Brazil unfortunately fields 11 individual and separate personalities who cannot seem to play together as a team, for the good of the team. Each player seems to be playing on the field only for their individual glory, not TEAM glory. Brazil seems to believe that nobody can ever beat them and everyone seems to reinforce that notion rather blindly, but in the past few years I suggest that said notion is obviously not true. Just watch the look of panic on their faces whenever they are losing. Instead of supporting one another and trying to win their way back, they will start blaming one another.

During World Cup 2006, Brazil had a relatively easy path to reach the quarterfinals until it met a more difficult opponent, the French. Ronaldo scored all those goals against lightweight teams and because of his lack of fitness, he was a relative non-factor in the game with France. Ronaldinho demonstrated that he is not the best player in the world as he could not do anything meaningful with the ball, whether he played a strong team or a weak team; he is just not ready for this level of competition yet.

World Cup 2002, Brazil was again rather unimpressive and had it relatively easy all the way to the finals. But for some defensive errors by the Germans, Brazil had to really work hard to win that World Cup.

World Cup 1998...Brazil had no business making it to the final where they lost to France. Their entire tournament was filled with weak play and more internal squabbling on and off the field. Remember Ronaldo was vomitting up until kick-off because of the high expectations thrust upon him.

But you do have to give Brazil its due for one thing, and that is the fact that their reputation precedes them. Weaker teams seem to buy into that and fear Brazil, which often works in Brazil's favour. But whenever Brazil plays a more worthy opponent, all their ball-bouncing circus tricks are of no help at all.

considering what the world expected from them and what we are used to seeing from this side you would have to agree they were very poor. Who really knows what went wrong for them, but it just didn't come together this time round. However I am sure we will see Brazil return to better form. A team like that can never be written off because of one bad performance at a WC.
