I am attending a memorial service for a friend who recently passed away. It is being held at a Chinese Baptist Church, she was Chinese. Are all colors appropriate to wear according to customs? It is very warm here, over 100*.

Wear whatever is customary in your part of the country for a funeral. Bring along a sweater or jacket just in case the church is air-conditioned. Don't worry about appropriate colors. If she's being buried in a Baptist church, she and her other Chinese friends are probably Americanized enough not to care whether you are wearing black or white. In Detroit, the Chinese I know tend to wear black to funerals of all denominations.

Usually white is the color of mourning in the Asian culture, but I've never heard of a Chinese Baptist Church????Do they limit their membership to Chinese??? Isn't that segregation???

Wear red. It is the color for mourning. Their tradition looks upon death as an entering into another colorful, high spirited world. :D
