he died a few days ago of cancer, I just found out. A sad life, but I was wondering if anybody had any less-than-tragic thoughts about him?

Some of the great Floyd music would not be if it were not for Syd. Wish you were here is all about Syd. You can clearly hear his influence throughout the 70's era Pink Floyd. I firmly believe that without him music today would be a little different. I could not imagine driving without The Wall or Dark Side of the Moon.

I think he died of complications of diabetes, not cancer but no matter what he died from, it was a very sad day. Even if Syd wasnt around when Pink Floyd were in their glory years, he still brought together one of the greatest bands of all time and was an inspiration to many of their great albums. Shine on Syd, shine on...

the guy i work with is very into pink floyd. since he found out he died, he brought in a few cds of syd barrets music. i believe these were made after he was no longer in pink floyd. the music was really good and we'll definately be listening to them again soon. syd was very talented.

He was an amazing writer, who had SO very much to do with starting Pink Floyd- far more than most people know... He spent so many years, "hiding"- most don't know that even after he left Floyd, he still wrote for them, but never wanted any of the credit. What an incredible, selfless soul that man was. It's a damn shame that such horrible things happen to wonderful people...

Overrated! It was David Gilmour who established (with Roger Waters) Pink Floyd as a great legendary band.. They were spacy and amazing with Barrett but Gilmour is the guitar that made them a legend and their albums classics.
