The referee was fair. He awarded France a penalty that wasn't actually one 6 minutes after the game started. That brought France up one goal immediately. Later in the game, France called for another penalty, but the referee didn't concede it to make up for his mistake. The second goal Italy scored was invalidated because it was offside (we never saw the replay, though). The red card to Zidane was well-deserved. I saw worse refereeing all throughout the tournament.

The only way Italy could have won by cheating is if they bribed the ball, so that Trezeguet could miss his penalty kick. Now, can you bribe a ball? The answer is up to you.

The referee DEFINTLY wasnt against France. How was Italy cheating , lol i find it funny that people would even try to use that excuse. France got a penelty kick for almost no reason and Italy is just that good that they made the score even, and after 2nd half when Italy got one in, it turned out if was "offside" and the ref called that one, yet Italy was cheating and the ref was against France. what an awful excuse to try and bring down the fact ITALY WON

Italy didn't win by cheating, they won by Trezeguet hitting the cross bar when he was supposed to put it in the net. The referee was equally unjust to both teams. The penalty kick you guys got shouldn't have been one, but there was a play inside the box later on that should have been one, and wasnt, so that is even. Italy's goal WAS offside, and for those Italians insulting the ref about that, its the linseman that calls offside, it isnt the ref's responsibility. Rather the ref saw Zidane headbut Materrazzi or not is totally irrelevant, because that should of been a red card. I mean, if you would prefer to win with Zidane staying in the game, that is just gross. That being said, both teams played rather patheticly in the beginning. I think the semifinals should have had Germany and Argentina in them, its too bad they had to play in the quarterfinals. Anyway, its over, so just look forward to 2010.

JESUS!!! how many times are the losers gonna call the winners cheaters????

GET OVER IT!!

the ref for the game was probably the most fair of ALL of the refs in the world cup this year. if italy cheated in other matches, they definitely didnt cheat this time. THEY ARE BETTER THAN FRANCE AND DESERVED TO WIN!!

if france was so great, why was the only goal they recieved a penalty kick??? why couldnt they score in the 80 minutes when zidane was on the field??? why couldnt they win??? why didnt they make every penalty kick????

its not like zidane getting a red card prevented france from winning. besides, he got kicked out in the last 10 minutes of the game....if hes so great, where was he the other 80 minutes of the game!???

if you can answer all these questions with intelligent and logical answers, maybe i'll agree that italy cheated. till then, suck it up!

"Against France totally???" Well then explain the penalty in the seventh minute of the game. Italy might not have performed their best in the final but don't blame the result on the referee.

I think that Italy did win by cheating because in the game AUSTRALIA VS ITALY the italian player had triped over the australian player if that did'nt happen it maybe could have been a different stroy.Maybe just aybe France could have won the world cup.If the referee heard wat the itlain player said to Zidane maybe that could have different to.We just have to wait till the next world cup in 2010 (i cant wait = ] )

why do people keep thinking that if zidane didnt get kicked out france would have won? lets just say theoretically, zidane did not head-butt Materazzi and they still went into penalty kicks... zidane scores one for France.. but people seem to forget tho France still missed one shot... or is everyone short term memory kicking in and all they can remember is up to the head butt? Italy won, deal with it.

No Italy won because France lost their best player and couldn't make penalty kicks.
