They actually have a lot of butter & cream in their diets, so it's not that it's low fat -- go figure.

I've always heard that the French diet is much more about fresh fruits & veggies, unprocessed foods, more fish & poultry, not as much refined sugar, and less red meat and more red wine. I've also heard they are more active than Americans, and that they eat smaller portions, and eat them more slowly.

I've been meaning to read this book that came out a couple years ago, and I bet it would answer your question and more...It's available on Amazon for less than $15, and I remember hearing it got good reviews as informative & a fun read.

Hello I am french.
First there are some fat women in france too, of course.
2nd: Probably the way we eat is more sane. It is not fat food and most of all we never eat between meals. Three meals a day: 8h, 12h, 19h.
Nothing than fruits of yogourts between. no soda, no sugar.
:)
i do not know, maybe it is the same for U, but as a french girl, here is the only answer I can give you!

They appreciate food more than Americans -- they eat slowly, they savor flavors. They don't just wolf down a bag of chips in front of the television set. They also eat smaller portions than we do, and tend to favor fresh foods over processed crap and junk food.

Their culture is completely different than American culture. People in Europe tend to drive less and walk/bike around more, and they don't eat such high processed fatty foods either.
