Was it embarrassing? I have seen this happen to a few grown women lately and there faces turned red.

Well when i was younger my mother definitely believed in swatting us (we called it a whooping). and she didn't care who was watching. if we missed behaved she was the first to put us quickly back in our places. My father on the other hand never hit us. But his voice alone made you realize that to act out in front of him came consqeunces. If my mother tried that now I'd have to quickly walk off before the urge to raise my hand to her takes over. However we have way more respect for one another to disrespect each other in that way.

No, my Mom never did stuff like that. She'd just take us home and admonish us privately.
People who smack their kids in public (or otherwise) just have no self-control.
