channel 4 has first dibs on all the best bits so if something interesting is happening it will cut away so it can be used for the highlights, there's something like a 5 minute delay on the 'live' feed so they know what's happening before we do. other reason's for the sound being cut are swearing, product placement and talking about family, friends and other personal things - basically anything channel 4 or endemol could get into trouble over

I read all the other answers, and Im not so sure about it being bona-fide censorship, I was watching the other day and pete and mikey were playing a tennis type game when the sound wentoff, and I was kinda lip-reading and saw nothing offensive. I think they just do it intermittantly to bug us or give us something to ask about on Answers! lol

angela m has a good point, also, i was told that its not actually 'live'. They edit it by blocking the sound when the housemates are swearing, as its shown before the watershed.

it is because the people running the show cut out the sound whhen the answer may be incriminating

becuase although the housemates have waived their rights to privacy, their family have not, so say their Uncle Cuthbert is a closet transvestite we dont have the right to know, its called censorship

because it's not really live, they look at it before sending it to the homes of people just to make sure they is no rude words/ them saying sumthing they shouldn't.

they have to censor out bad language before 9pm. they also have to censor chat involving any products such as coca cola. they have to censor out chat about peoples friends and family.
