linwood I definitely has the Best Answer. I too LOVE motorcycles and have ridden them throughout my life, but probably not as much as linwood, but I can tell you from personal experience and from knowing others that motorcycle riding can be very dangerous. That doesn't mean that I don't want one and want to ride one. It just means that too many people love me and count on me (family) for me to jeopardize my life that way. If I did get one I'd get brand new Harley. I'd love to ride the Harley ride up at Sturgis, South or North Dakota each summer. But you can probably guess it'll be a dream for me all my life. I can't really imagine getting one for the reasons I stated above, and after hundreds of thousands of miles on the road, I've found something with a roof and doors and ac and heating and windshield wipers a helluva lot more comfortable than any motorcycle. And motorcycles are NOT known to have better gas mileage, and they have smaller gas tanks, so you can run out of gas quicker too. And those "crotch rockets" are, in my "not-so-humble" opinion, some of the most dangerous bikes out there. They may be incredibly quick, all the way up to the point where they run into an immoveable and much slower car, SUV or pickup truck. Then, it's OUCH CITY!! in the worst sort of way. And it could be "Boot Hill" for you too. So, think seriously about it. God Bless you.

GS-500, Katana 600, SV 650 or the Bandit 600 would be ideal to learn on, and these bikes have plenty enough power to grow into.

If you have never ridden a motorcycle, I suggest you take a motorcycle safety course. If you can pass that, then perhaps the instructors can help you decide.
