Doubtful, when by definition natural selection implies survival of the fittest and more intelligent of the species...not the weakest and least intelligent folks (generally speaking of course).

The question isn't wether we will evolve as a species beyond a need for agression, because there will always be agressors in cultures.

The question that needs to be looked at is whether or not the current trend in humanity toward aggressive behavior is an evolutionarily stable strategy. My guess is no. I think we're going to take each other out. Nature tends to restore the balance though. If there are too many hawks among doves and it's not stable, selection will straighten it out. It's just a slow process that takes generations...

I certainly see a general trend in this regard. It would appear to be strongly tied in with democracy. I'm more inclined to view our evolution based around the population and mass communication. We may not see change in our daily or even yearly lives but upon reflection the changes towards a pacified world are astounding. I won't insult by siting the too numerous examples of where we've come from. So in my opinion we will evolve beyond the need for aggression, the caveat being that the world is governed by democracies.

As it is now, we produce in order to survive, whether though jobs or crops or relying on one who does produce. This creates a competitive mentality. A duality mind-set of less/more, have/have not, good/bad, etc. Nothing wrong with this, it just is.

If we choose to live without aggression we will have to find new ways of satisfying our basic needs and reconcile this basic duality, at the least. I believe we can find the answers we need but more as an act of faith than anything I can prove. Who knows what limits of humanity truly are?

We're not going to evolve. But we can come to temper society if we provide better equality and respect for people. Aggression today is retaliation for centuries of abuse, it is not just some instinctual thing. The instinctual part matters for our desires and active engagement-- that is, a completely passified and comotose poulation would die off, care-free. Our consciousness reaches out to objects. But it is unnecessary that our human desires manifest in violence-- unless of course there is some form of draconian oppression. If your city is perpetually being bombed, there is no need to make reasons for hate and retaliation, they are self-evident.

no. Besides, with no aggression, we'd be also without gumption/ambition - are you talking about something less general, like hostility or spite? Even without those, I think that the whole of the human experience would be screwed up. It's like fat - too much kills you with crappy diseases, but with none you fall into a coma and die. So, hopefully not, though it was a nice thought from a certain angle....

We don't have a need for aggression. We have an impulse towards aggression. We can deny that impulse at will, or redirect it into non-violent activities. It's very much like the sexual impulse. It's there; now what do you want to do with it?

Eventually if we survive the aggression. Gonna be long, painful process, though. Fun exploration of the question is novel by Alan Dean Foster, "Quozl"

My take is that until we conquer the primitive aggressive aspect of our being, we aren't fully human.

WTF
There is no evolution some one needs to get out more!
Evolution is yesterdays news...If you where on here enough you would see that.
I will give you one thought i think that you can find the rest on your own and decied for yourself what you think...
If we (ALL life) Can evoluve to our surrondings there would be aliens on the moon and and aliens on mars.
According to evolution we evolve to our (lifes!) surrondings.
On every planet there would be some sort of life that could adapt to that planet that just the way it is...its just sad what some people think.
