I am Algerian myself, from the same town Zidane is originally from in Algeria, but I find it difficult accepting his behaviour in the World Cup Final. Nothing justifies his violent behaviour, whether it is racial, religious or other kind of verbal abuse. A good professional player must know how to manage their anger and react reponsibly even in the most stressful situations.
The Golden Ball award is not only about who plays best on the pitch. It is also about having good sportsmanship. Mazzaratti was probably abusive in his language with Zidane; howerver, this doesn't mean Zidane had to be violent to put him back in his place. the best reaction would have been to ignore it and not buy into provocative behaviour. Unfornately Zidane's respect has gone down in the eyes of Algerian and French Kids who always considered him as their hero. Vive Zidane!! Vive Zizou, Vive l'Algerie, long live Algeria and France! but I don't think he is worthy of the Golden Ball award, though.

Zidane is a good player, yes I know, but they decided to give him the title BEFORE the headbutting incident. I think other than Zidane deserved it, like Fabio Cannavaro (who got the silver ball.. but deserved the Golden Ball, because he was OUTSTANDING all the games in the tournament) or Gigi Buffon (for being an AMAZING GOAL KEEPER). Many people think it was all fixed, because the FIFA favored him.. But, when he got red carded, Blatter (FIFA PRESIDENT), went in the changing room with Zidane. I'm tellin' ya, they favored the Frenchmans.. but OH WELL, ITALY DESERVED THE WIN!!

cannavaro shouldve won . he was amazing all through the world cup unlike Zidane who was great one or two games. It's a disgrace to soccer to allow Zidane to take the golden ball. Yes, Zidane is an amazing player but this world cup he was so-so at best. I think it was a matter of people being anti-Italian. It's too bad hate wins over great play.

No-even though the Italian player deserved to get his a$$ kicked, you can't blow your cool like that (I'd bet it was the Italian player's aim to get Z to react so as to get kicked out).
The guy who really was the most deserving as most valuable player was goalie Buffone of Italy-he was superior!!!His acrobatic saves, robbing the opposition right and left, could fill a hilight reel that could be used to teach goalkeeping for generations to come.
