You can purchase ground smoke that works, if used properly. Most farm stores carry these. In order for them to work you have to know the Groundhog in in the hole and that every Groundhog hole has two openings. Once you have located both of them, Cover and seal one hole w/ a large rock and dirt. At the other hole, be prepared to cover it also. Lite the smoke bomb and cover the hole.

You won't see them again. If you find the covers you placed over the holes have been disturbed, odds are good not all of the hogs were in the hole when you sealed it and you need to repeat the process. As a kid, we would not have had a garden if not for these.

You get rid of ground hogs by planting Iris lillies . Plant iris among anything else if you are bothered with groundhogs.

Do not cover the hole, cause if you kill them like that, other rodents come.

I've actually heard of putting Wrigley's chewing gum down the hole. It chases them away.

Smoke may work, but may not. You can also put a garden hose down the hole, so the water always comes out the holes. You'll have to repeat, if they come back. They eat grubs, so if you've got grubs, you're gonna have moles.

Trust me my grandma swore by this and i now use it.
Take a small hand held radio place it on your local rock station and drop it down the hole the groundhogs, moles, and any other underground critter will tunnel away from the sound. You do not have to blast it just put it at a normal listening volume.

P.S. DO NOT PUT IT ON COUNTRY,CLASSICAL,OR EASY LISTENING THEY WILL ACTUALLY SIT AND LISTEN TO THOSE ROCK IS THE ONLY MUSIC THAT WORKS.

go to home depot, and ask one of the helpers. there are sonic devices that you put in the ground that emit sound that only they can hear. This usually works pretty well. if this doesnt work there are actually pest control companies that blast foam into the holes, and scare the ground hogs out into a machine where they get vacumed inside, and released later into the wild.

Live Trap and transplant them. Otherwise, I would not worry about 'hurting' them, they're just a pest and a varmint, shoot them.

I used to have woodchucks all over my backyard and living under my shed. You can soak a couple rags in ammonia and hide them in various spots around your yard. Sounds weird, but I did this on my coworkers's recommendation, and it worked. They went away, and I (hopefully) did not hurt them.

A plant called the castor bean will keep most "rodent " and burrowing pests at bay. The seeds are available on line, or at a specialty nursery.

Put mothballs in their holes and around. They do not like the smell. You can buy small traps to catch and release them somewhere else. This would be my best recomendation.
