think about it there are 999 nubers they cant use 000 and dont use 555 so that leaves 997 devide that by 50 and you get about 20 per state? some cities have more than one area code, so what happens when they run out

In theory, you're right. But there are more than enough numbers available for the number of people around. When people stop using one line, their number gets recycled. So, the only time they'll run out is if there are way more people than exist now.

the answer is yes.... you take a code matirx and figure on the numbers 0-9 10 numbers right, so the first area code would be 001 then 002....... they could have up to 999 but you gotta think also.... northwestern ohio area code from just north of sidney all the way into toledo is 419. then you think you have all the different town codes. 586, 268, 394, 203, you can come up with seemingly endless combinations. but yes, eventually using the standard 555-555-5555 phone coding system they will no only run out of are codes, but town and residence codes as well

so long as they use only 3 digit numbers ....there is a limit. If they made area codes with more digits they could have more. There is no end to numbers so long as they use an infinite number of digits in the area codes, there could be an unlimited number of area codes. Does that make sense?

When they run out they will most likely add some sort of 4 digit area code.

w/out doing the math myself all i know is that you have to think about the different combinations of numbers you can't just devide 997 by 50 states one state may have 210 and another state may have 120... another answer to that is, in my state, Oklahoma there are only 3 area codes. The continent would have to get larger for the area codes not to cover the distances

you have to factor in that virgina and west virgina dont know what electrcity is yet, so they wont need area codes for a few more years, and than colorodo and michicgan is too cold for electricity so they dont have phones so theres another 40 area codes that we coudl spare, hawaii speaks different numbers so theres another 20 and than texas only two thigns come from there, steers, and ather steers who like them, so they cant talk anyway, and with the way bush counts he coul probably get a few more numbers out of 1-10, so i woudlnt worry abotu running out any time soon

Not area codes, but maybe phones numbers. If you dial your number with another area code, I will guarantee someone will answer.

Did someone start adding states to the union without telling me? I hate it when that George thinks he can do that!
Why would you think we would run out when every "area" currently has an "area" code. Are you expecting us to annex Iraq?
