If all prisons were truly prisons, anyone being released from them would not return to a life of crime, with the chance of going back there. Most of our prisons more resemble country clubs, giving the prisoners a reason to come back. They have their drugs, booze, food, entertainment and all the best that taxpayer money can afford them...even a vast library where they can research their not guilty plea. If prisons were made more like the prisons of old, no one would want to go back, thus gving us safer streets and lower taxes. To answer your question...if ALL criminals were sent to a true prison, you wouldn't need nine more reasons why they need to be sent to "special" prisons. A true prison would be a small cell, with a small bed, toilet and sink. You never leave the cell for exercise, eats or anything else. You get your three TV dinners a day, and wait out your sentence, with plenty of time to think about the error of your ways. You don't get any visitors, only mail. No phone calls. No one to talk to. If ALL criminals were treated this way, I don't think many would want to get caught again. I would think that they'd go straight once they served their whole sentence (not a reduced sentence for good behavior or some other such reason). How long would it be then, before most of our country's prisons could then be turned into resorts, theme parks or schools? Just think of the money we'd save if we turned all our prisons into true prisons! It boggles the mind. The 12 year old would be in the same sized cell as the 47 year old, eating the same food and thinking the same thoughts about straightening their life out and not coming back again. If our prisons were operated in this way, no one would be able to deal drugs or operate gangs within the building. It would be just prison. A place to take you off the streets, keeping society safe from harm, and hopefully giving you enough time to know that you'll never want to return again. I think this is do-able. Whether or not we'll get the system to change is another thing. It's something to think about. <*)))><

Why 10? Why not 14 or 38?

I've read stories about siblings and friends killing each other over stupid things like TV channels and bouncy balls. Those idiotic kids should be tried as adults because they MEANT to hurt/kill the victim.

One of the worst stories I heard were about a 14 year old and a 15? year old. They beat up their own mom and put her in the hospital on MOTHER'S DAY because she wouldn't give them money to buy new clothes since they weren't very wealthy. Those kids deserve to be in a real prison.
