Put beer in hand, put dart in hand, try not to hit friend with dart in the head. Try not to fall over drunk. Sounds pretty sporting to me.

Yes. A sport consists of a physical and mentally competitive activity carried out with a recreational purpose for competition, for self-enjoyment, to attain excellence, for the development of a skill, or some combination of these. A sport has physical activity, side by side competition, self-motivation and a scoring system. The difference of purpose is what characterises sport, combined with the notion of individual (or team) skill or prowess.
Darts is considered to be a target sport like archery and shooting both of which require concentration more than physical exertion with archery and shooting competitions featuring in the Olympics.
Darts was first recognised as a sport in the UK.

I shoot darts on a regular basis. I am the captain of my pub team, and take it rather seriously. Having said that, I don't know I would consider it a sport. I would call it a physical competition. Rather than typical "athletic" competition, the physical part takes hand-eye coordination. Strategy comes into play as well. You could just call it competition (such as chess), but you have to consider "physical" as part of the description. Stephen Hawking potentialy could kick someone's butt in Chess, but can't throw a dart.

Yes, darts is a sport. It requires you to use your head as well as use your skill. You still have to practice as with any other sport. In my oppinion darts is more of a mind game than skill, because you have to get head in the game and hit what you have to hit.

It's more of a game than a sport. As in, scrabble is a game - not a sport. Darts is a game - not a sport.
Soccer is a sport - not a game.
but they still call soccer/football/etc "games"
anyway darts requires concentration, coordination, skill, what not.

Anything that takes some form of physical skill or ability is concidered a sport. Poker and chess take mental ability (chess) and soem mental and luck(poker/cards). These are considered games. Darts, pool and such take hand eye coordination and throwing abilty, so they would be considered sports.

Well, I don't personally consider it a sport, but I suppose the argument could be made that it is a physical competition (albeit not one that requires much exertion), and that it requires a certain level of skill -- the old "easy to learn, hard to master" thing. Maybe it's a sport because people bet money on it? lol.
