I live there now, and it's a nice place to visit. You should definitely go to the George Street festival as previously mentioned, which is being held July 24 - 30. Also the St. John's Regatta is an awesome event.

Yes I visited there 3 years ago. If you are planning on going and are of legal drinking age (don't go at all if you're not) go during the George Street Festival held in July. Also don't forget to get "Screeched In" (Has nothing to do with the geeky dude from Saved by the Bell)
