Domestically, The Foo Fighters are an absolutely great band. Watch them live on their 2006 Acoustic Tour.
When a person can stand on stage alone of a packed house with only a microphone and acoustic guitar to rock a packed house, this is called talent.
Internationally, Eros Romazotti is excellent.

Oh yeah! C.C.R. Creedence Clearwater Rivial. Great song "Looking out my back door" on a summer's day and there's not a heck of a lot happening. If you want to be inspired to do things of a great noble nature listen to "Midnight Oil". If you want to hear some good folk music there's Buffy Sainte-Marie, Sinead O'Connor, Christy Moore-good political messages-a little bit of everything. Oh and the sound track to "Amandla!", African music, and get some South American music too.

I specialize in "Classic Rock"-the period 1963 (when the Beatles became all the rage in England) to around 1984 (when Van Halen still had David Lee Roth as their frontman)...*** = probable best.
Rolling Stones-Some Girls cd (1978)
the Doors-self-titled cd (1967)-has 'Light My Fire***' = killer song!
Beatles-Revolver (1966), Sgt. Pepper ***(1967)
David Bowie-Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders from Mars (1972)
Lou Reed-Rock n Roll Animal ***(Live-1974) = features title track plus monster tunes Sweet Jane and Heroin (I don't advocate drugs-this tune just kicks).
the Cars-self-titled first cd*** (1978)
Jethro Tull-Stand Up! (1969), Aqualung*** (1971)-featuring title tune plus the killer Locomotive Breath
Led Zeppelin- Led Zeppelin II (1970)-features Whole Lotta Love, Livin' Lovin' Maid-this cd's packed!!
the Eagles-Greatest hits 1-with Life In the Fast Lane***
Aerosmith-Toys in the Attic (1975), Rocks*** (1976)
Elton John-Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973)-featuring Sat. Night's Alright for Fighting ***(tied for best song with...), Honky Chateau (1972)-featuring Mona Lisas & Madhatters, Hercules and my fave Rocket Man***
Jimi Hendrix-Are You Experienced? (1967)-with the legendary Purple Haze AND Hey Joe (firts two singles-both monsters***)
Devo (don't laugh-this lp blasts:)-Q:Are We Not Men? A: We Are
Devo!***-produced by Brian Eno, their 1st cd was their best.
-best song = Whip it!, but it's on their 3rd album (red flowerpots for hats)
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young-Deja Vu (1969-?)-features the suite
Judy Blue Eyes
the Who-Who's Next (1971)-with killer cut Baba O'riley***
...I could go on for the rest of today.

If you're into metal, I highly recommend In Flames. If not, Taproot is always a good choice, a little bit of Lost Prophets here and there, 311, and Autopilot Off is really good.
