I see Mormon people all over the place....and the girls are always wearing these ugly dresses and have really long hair....but the guys look stylish and everything....and the girls don't ever look too happy to me....

So I was wondering...does it suck to be a mormon? Is it like Amish?

I wouldn't wear that hair or clothing....

I think you are mistaking Mormons for some other group like the Mennonites or something. I am Mormon and the women wear their hair anyway they want, some are long ( actually most older women I know wear it short), some medium. Most women I know also color or highlight their hair in some way. Some wear lots of makeup, some a little, and some none at all ( just like all women everywhere). As for clothing, a Mormon woman should be modest and not wear revealing clothing ( no exposed stomachs or tube tops), but she can wear clothing that are modern and stylish, including jeans, and just about anything else you can think of. The rule of modesty also applies to men as well, and you should never see a Mormon guy dressed in revealing clothing either. But we do go to beaches and we do swim with our shirts off, and women wear bathing suits ( they just usually don't wear bikinis, even though some I know do that as well) I could never pick out a Mormon woman in a crowd just by what she was wearing. I still say you are confusing them with some other religious denomination. The only Mormon women I know who are like that belong to fundamentalist movements, which are not a part of the mainstream LDS religion. If you remember Carmen Rasmusen from American Idol ( she is Mormon), you would know that Mormon women do not dress the way that you think they do.

That's funny. Wonder where you live. Mormon girls aren't restricted to wearing any particular clothing, as long as it is modest and unrevealing. There are no dress codes for hair and clothes!

Sometimes, people conform to what others in their peer group wear, but as far as that being demanded by the church--no, Mormons don't have to wear ugly dresses and long hair!

As far as happiness goes, people are individuals so they vary from person to person. But the Mormons I know are among the happiest people on earth!

Being Mormon is nothing like being Amish! Mormons appreciate new technology and are very current in their beliefs and lifestyles. While they do reject many of the degenerate habits of today's culture (pornography, violence, drugs and alcohol, etc.) they still live in today's world right along side of you. They vote. They pay taxes. They enlist in the military to defend this country. They work, shop, enjoy movies and vacation just like you.

Some people give the wrong impression of what it is to be Mormon.

But it doesn't suck to be Mormon. :)

Mormon is really nothing like amish. They do hold more to the biblical clothing rules for woman. My aunt is mormon and she only wears skirts or dresses. They think its being more respectful to God. Most mormon guys I have ever met are dressed in dress pants and dress shirts. And they often wear backpacks and ride bicycles.

They consider themselves Gods chosen ppl, and the holy land is in Utah.

Two mormon kids at my school wore normal clothes, do you mean when they are out preaching or something? All I know is that the guys wear a white shirt and tie. I've never seen the women preaching before, so I don't know. But if they believe what they believe, would it really suck?

Well, I don't believe the girls are forced to be there, aside from some possible "emotional blackmail." Still my guess the church hierarchy is pretty much patriarchal. They probably are confined to some pretty strict dress codes, so you will not want to convert anytime soon. You could always stop into Salt Lake City and get a real feel for what it means to be a "latter day saint."

Well I am Not Mormon, Thank God, but yes it does suck to be a Mormon, because they have the modesty and hair thing down, but thet do not have the truth, like us Pentecostals.

It was annoying dating one - back in 1985. He had to choose between being a Mormon or being with me, and I'm glad he chose his religion.
