No. Sprint uses a different type of network called CDMA and is not compatible with SIM cards ---> that's GSM. If you want to use a SIM card, you need a Cingular, T-mobile or other unlocked GSM phone. Pop your SIM card in it and you are good to go! Hope that helps :)

No, Sprint uses a more advanced type of system (CDMA 1900/PCS) that doesn't require a SIM card to work. In other words, Sprint phones don't even have a spot for you to put a SIM card in. If you buy a Cingular or T-Mobile phone, it will work with a prepaid SIM card, but there are some conditions:

First, the phone needs to be UNLOCKED. You need to contact the service provider the phone was designed to work for (AT&T/Cingular or T-Mobile) to get the lock code, or else drop by one of those "everything" cell phone shops with a machine that can do it. It will cost you anywhere from $29 to $120. The quality won't be near as good as a PCS phone on the PCS network (the most advanced technology to date), but it should work ok.

Second, you need to verify that the phone you purchase works on the same bandwidth as the prepaid SIM card service you want to use. For example, in the US there are three bandwidths that are used: GSM 1900 (T-Mob, AT&T, some Cingular), GSM 850 (Cingular), GSM 800 (some Cingular, many regional providers). Overseas, other bandwidths are used, such as GSM 400, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 2200. Check the specs page of the user manual for the phone you purchase to make sure.

Hope this helps!

No not if you get it at a sprint store... if you get it at like a best buy type of place... they are automatically a prepaid phone if it said the phone is capable.
