It depends on who the "people" are. If it's your boss, your children, your spouse, your parents that's important and you should care -- but to a point. Their opinions of you are strictly that, opinions. Whose to say whether they are wrong or right. It's all very subjective. And if you waste a lot of energy worrying about what people (including significant others) think about you, then you're really not using your time wisely. The most important opinion about yourself is the one that comes from you.

Caring to a point is fine. Caring enough to fret, stress or spend lots of money changing yourself is bad. Those other people will not pay your bills or take care of your needs. Also, many people do not say what they really think, so how can you believe what anyone says about you? They could lie to make you feel inferior, or so you go and join them out of peer pressure....it's too confusing to worry about what other people are thinking. just love yourself and be yourself.

I think you are a stupid self centered idiot.
Why does that matter in your life?
You know I'm wrong.
And I lied.
Most people's opinion of you is wrong most of the time.
It's not worth the stress.
When somebody gives me some crap like I did to you in the first sentence, I compare it to a dog barking.
I don't care what he thinks. He's just making noise to feel important.

It's one thing to care what people think about you, but it's a whole different thing when you can't do anything that you think "they" might not like. I've known people who were forever going on about "what will the neighbors (or any other group) think if I do that?"
On the other hand, I've seen too many people today who act like complete hooligans because they don't think it matters at all what others think.

There isn't anything wrong with it people just take it way overboard sometimes. Like my x friend. She always had to have makeup on even to take the trash out. It was pathetic. And she never took it off so she has really bad skin.

Honestly, I think more people should.
Because when you're worried on how people will perceive you, then you are actually thinking about how you come across. This is good for introspection. It helps you figure out who you are. And it helps you care about other people's feelings.

It used to really bother me when people thought poorly of me. The older I get, the less it bothers me. I am me, and if that's a problem for someone, too bad for them. I don't own their feelings.
Just be yourself, that's all I can advise you.
Really, all that matters is that you're comfortable with yourself, isn't it?

Because few of us are mind readers and we usually guess wrong and therefore react wrong.
