Are nutritional drinks such as Boost or Ensure safe for a breastfeeding mother to drink?

I know Ensure has their own line of Healthy Mom drinks for sale, but they cost entirely too much (between $7-$10 for a pack of 4?! no thanks)

I called the 800 Number on the Boost Bottle, but they just asked me for my phone number and would return the call later.

I have no information on the safety of these products (although their imbalance of nutrients could harm you more likely than your baby). But they're just not healthy. They have a lot of processed sugar, plus a few vitamin supplements. You could get the same "meal" by taking a vitamin supplement and washing it down with a couple of tablespoons of sugar...which I *also* wouldn't recommend!! both boost and ensure should be fine to drink they are both supplements... but i would not drink them as a meal replacement.. you need a well balanced diet when you are breastfeeding. also try carnation instant breakfast. they are good

oh and for a yummy treat
try mixing any of them in a blender with ice, yummy!
if you still want a professional opinion
ask any pharmacist like at walmart or albertsons they can tell you!

Personally, I don't think so. A healthy diet and the right kind of fish oil is nessecary for a pregnancy.
If you need a meal replacement try Whey Healthier or Jay Robb's Whey Protein.
If you're eating right, you will not need vitamins.
Fish oil you will, we get dangerously too less of it.

They are fine as a supplement...say in place of a snack...but don't replace meals with them.

You can also mix them in the blender with ice cream to make a good high calorie shake. (I did that a lot when PG to help me gain weight.)
