First ask him, how his parents reacted when he chose to listen other genres of music, when he had your age. Second show him what you listen and explain to him what he don't understand about them. Third show some interest in the type of music he listens to. As you appreciate his music, he'll also appreciate yours.

Are you saying that he doesn't like what you listen to? Or is it that he's buying you music you don't like? Either way talk to him, if he doesn't like what you listen to, find out why. Maybe he finds it offensive, if that's the case maybe you could compromise that you would only listen to it in headphones or something. I really didn't understand what you're asking, but those "dad doesn't understand that i'm getting older and-" questions will come up a lot. Start talking with him now, because the longer you let things go, the harder it will be for HIM to let go when you're older. Build good communication now...and avoid screaming/yelling because that's the fastest wasy to look like a child.

Parents are very conservative on the whole. They wouldn't want their choices to be ignored. Yes, I understand your situation. Sometimes, to talk to them is a big thing but you can try. But looking at both sides, what type of music do you listen to? If it's in contrast to your dad's liking, explain to him nicely; don't fume over it. As a dad, he should understand and soon, he will start accepting you and the type of music you listen to. Patience is a virtue. It always helps but you need lots of it. Try to make him understand by persuading or explaining to him. All the best.

Tell your dad that you like his kind of music, but you would really appreciate it if you could pick out your own music, maybe take him to a concert or let him listen to your music, he might not even know what your kind of choice is.

This is your choice and your taste in music. You go on and listen to your own choice of music.
