try and click the start menu and then click on run. now in the text box command line type taskmgr.exe and press enter.
in the window that opens click on the tab labelled "processes"
now scroll through the list of running processes and right click on each one in turn and click on "end process tree" don't worry if you click one and it says your system will be closed. thats the option you are after. you can the restart your computer after all the processes have been closed.

remember though NOT to end Explorer.exe
Befor doing this however run your antivirus program and update the definitions and run a system wide scan once the update has been installed. remeber for the best possible action you need to have no exceptions in the scan. you want to scan everything.

this is generic information for any system running microsoft windows operating systems above windows 95 and includes all editions even the new VISTA Beta test versions.

personal experiance.

The processes to start eith would be anything that relates to limewire as a place to start.

as for burning out your system. trust me, i have a home built system that is on 99% of the time running 6 hard drives, 2 dvd burners (internal) amongst a host of other features.
the only thing you would need to worry about would be a possible burn in on your display panel/monitor; should you leave the monitor powered on with no screensaver active in your operating system. but you can always power off your monitor (in most Home PC situations) without this affecting the processes running on your computer.

good luck, i hope this helps.

Here is how it works. You download limewire. Now you find a file full of music or movies you want to hear and watch, plus add to your collection.

The file you want to download was, probably, made by a teenager (15 - 18) who is bored and his/hers parents use the computer to keep the kid out of their hair. They also give them very large allowances, thinking this will make the kid love them even though they don't pay attention.

The kid is angry, at the world, cause his parents are worthless pieces of crap. So, with the allowance, he buys virus programs from the Internet Blackmarket and installs it in a music file.

So now you come along and see his file with music you want. You download and open the file. You are now infected with the virus. Limewire didn't infect you. They only allowed you access to this little scumbags file that infected you.

It seems to me, you don't have or use an Anti-Virus and Anti-Spy programs. Since the virus will probably prevent you from downloading any AV/AS programs I recommend you go to this online site for a free scan and removal. If it doesn't find anything does not mean you are not infected. You might not be infected but, it could be that the program doesn't recognize the virus you have. If it does find an infection, write down the name completely and accurately. Exactly as listed. Change nothing. Do not worry about cookies. Click on the box(s) to remove everything it finds.

If the infection(s) is still on after this, then go here and post a new thread. Give the name of the infection, exactly, and look for answers from onemjc, jibberjabber,rambler243. They will give you the best help. Any replies that give long lists of programs to try, ignore them.

Just for your information. Most of the free music and movies you download, with limewire and other programs, are illegal and can result in you being prosecuted for criminal and civil offenses.

press and hold the power off button for several seconds and wait for your pc to power down. unplug your modem, dsl router or whatever you have. leave them off for 30 secs or so power on your router/modem give it 30 secs or so to boot then power up your pc,either exit limewire or uninstall it - the choice is yours.

Then update your anti virus defs, if you don't have av software do a google for AVG and download and install it. run a full system scan and check for viruses ir trojans, also check for adware, spyware, malware.

You may not have a virus, installing limewire per se won't infected your pc and if you're vigilant on what you download. the moral side ignored here. i'll do it from a tech point of view and leave the moral side of limewire etc to some other forum:)))

but downloading dodgy files can lead to infection.

Rem Windows , is not always 100% stable, and that's being polite about it:)) /Sometimes when it's writing from memory the shut down process and go haywire and "hang" so it prolly isn't a virus unless you downloaded and excuted an infected file.

To nitpick: the plural of virus is viruses.

Anyway, some say that leaving the computer on constantly is better for the hard drive because turning it on and leaving it on makes it hot, but when you turn it off it cools down, and the cycling of the heat and cold can damage the disks.

Holding down the power button will soft power it down rather than just unplugging. When your computer starts up, install a good anti-virus (Avast is a free one), along with spybot search and destroy. The nature of spyware is that no one program can get everything, but for simplicity just get those two. Install and run both. P2P will always be riddled with viruses =o

Uninstall Limewire.
Run a virus and spyware scan, and see if that does anything.
