I would rescue the Library of Alexandria. I would shoot Hitler and save Jewish children from being killed. I would reunite families.
I would go back tens of thousands of years and see what we were like around the last Ice Age, see our rituals. I would go to England, Spain and France in the middle ages. I would go to Egypt and Babylon 500 and 300 BC. See what Cleopatra really looked like. See how Egyptians built the pyramids and what their society was like in 2000 BC
I would go back to the last age of the dinosaurs and see how they died around 65 million years ago. I would go back further and see what the world was like 1 billion years ago, see what plant and animal life were at what stage.
I would go back 200,000 years, right where I am and see what the land my house is on was like at that time.
I would go to Africa 100,000 years ago and see what we were doing and how our migrating was taking shape.
I would save animals from poachers.-- I would shoot the person who invented the spring animal traps.
Go back and see what Jesus was doing when he was a teenager and in his twenties.
I would see Frampton and Led Zepplin live baby!!! woo hoo!!! I would meet the Beatles! See what John Lennon was like in Liverpool when he was just a boy. I would go to Woodstock in 69 and eat the brown acid just for fun!
I would do so much with a time machine that the entire universe would implode.

However, I would never ever want to go to the future. That is not meant for me to see. It would be way too scary and I wouldn't be able to take that kind of information. I would rather just not see it.

Well, since no one has actually created a time machine, no one can travel back in time. The furthest back in time that anyone "could" travel would be to the exact moment that the first time machince was built. There would be a limit on the distance back in time that you could travel. I read somewhere that as soon as you complete building a time machine you should start receiving messages or visitors, depending on the structure and nature of the machine, because that is the furthest back that anyone could travel. WEIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But that one guy that already answered took my hypothetical answer of going back and warning the native americans about their impending doom! If you think about the way that man spread over the earth, the native americans and other tribal people were similar to having a time machine insomuch as being able to interact with a primitive people who had just began stopping their travels and began farming and other agricultural lifestyles that the "whiteman" had done already and then began his reign of technology which led him across the oceans in his great ships.

I would go forward in time and see that I did the following with the time machine:

1. take a video camera and record the Life of Jesus for proof or disproof of what happened.
2. Stop ADAM & EVE from eating that fruit!
3. Be the ONLY investor of Ebay, Dell, AMD, Intel
4. Warn Lincoln and Kennedy of their impending assasinations.
5. Kill Hilter, Stalin, Lenin (and any other wicked despots I could find in the history books)
play EVER winning lottery that was over $100 million (don't want to get TOO greedy, after all I would be the only investor in Microsoft, Ebay, Dell, AMD, Intel)
6. Most important! I would learn to rollerskate backwards!

I must apologize for the luftansa robbery, I just found out that I did it!
DAMNED TIME MACHINE!

Visions of the future often depict society as highly advanced both technologically and intellectually. We tend to think of people of the distant future as having achieved utopia where all the fundamental problems of the world have been solved: hunger, poverty, war. But guess what, we are the people of the future. We are the society that people wondered about thousands of years ago. And with all our advances, we live in a world that is anything but harmonious and peaceful.

So If I had a time machine I would travel back in time and tell the people of ancient societies of the grief and strife that lies ahead in the future. And I'd let them know that people of the future need a Savior just as they.

I'd go live in the 1920s, then use it to live the 20s again in a different lifestyle before the Great Depression hit. Not to mention just going around to some of the major events in history and watching. But I'd probably screw something up, and change the world as we know it completely. Oh well.

Go back in time a couple of weeks and buy the winning lottery ticket.

Rescue some dinosaur eggs from the K-T extinction event (and also settle the question, "What color was a Tyrannosaurus's skin?")

Take a movie camera back to the age of Moses and make a movie of what really happened in the Exodus.

I would go back in time and slap the crap out of Jimmy Carter for stopping political assassinations. We wouldn't be in the mess we are in now if the CIA's hands had not been tied by that coward of a president.

I'd like to say a lot of witty things, but the one thing I'd like to do would be go to the future when they have a cure for cancer, then travel back to the past and save my mother. And if I couldn't actually change anything, then I'd go back and spend a day with her. I'd give anything if I could just have one moment with her.
