No, it really is not. You are talking about the difference between an intrinsic value and an instrumental value. An intrinsic value is good of itself, like love, good health, courage, wisdom or compassion. An instrumental value is good for what it can do to further your goals. Money is an instrumental value. It is meaningless except as a tool to further your real values.
However, it is admittedly a very important tool at times.

No money is not everything. Some people have all the money but not happiness. If you worked everyday to have more money than you need, is that happiness. no. I rather not have much money and be happy then be a millionare and be sad. Some people want who are rich want to be middle class and be happy.(story from book)
