I buy all my supplies at www.ferret.com. Shipping on my first order was free and their prices were pretty good.
As far as what supplies you need: cage, litter pans(for in and out of the cage), water bottle, food dish, hammocks, toys,FERRET food, litter(preferable paper based, like Yesterdays News or Marshalls), bedding( I use old t-shirts. They are soft, washable and ferrets love sleeping in piles of laundry anyway), FerreTone supplement, FerretLax for hair balls, treats, a leash and harness.
Now, I adopted two males from the humane society. I found them through www.petfinder.com. After I adopted them the lady at the shelter told me that the owners threw in a huge cage with all the supplies. That was nice and I hear that lots of owners give away cages with their ferrets. Humane society charges an adoption fee, around here it's $45.00.
Good luck

We have a cage that has multiple stories and can be sectioned off (this is necessary as when ones gets sick, they tend to bite the other one.) Get enough food and water dishes and litter boxes to cover each corner of the cage, since that is where they like to potty and they won't potty in their food and water. I use towels on all the floor surfaces of the cage. A hammock set up in the cage is really nice for them to sleep in, or a empty trash bag box with a soft towel in it. Get some cat toys and some ferret vitamin treats with the food. You should be good to go!

A lot of people have ferrets in California, even if it is illegal. Just as a lot of people drank during prohibition and a lot of people use illegal drugs today. I know there are ferrets in NYC and other cities where they are banned as well.

A cage that he/she can move in and breath well. For a litter pan you can use an old cake pan. Water bottle you can get cheap at a farmers supply store. And get a salt lick so they can lick it i don't know why they just like to, make sure you have chew sticks too.

Everyone else sorta has it covered, but don't forget about TOYS! Seriously, ferrets need tons of toys. They can be simple household objects (mine likes paper bags and boxes), but they also like the tunnel-type toys and such. They need lots of stimulation. Two ferrets...I almost pity you. I thought one was tough! At first it can be a bit overwhelming, but believe me when I say, it gets easier. :)
